A great post on the willingness of some to ignore the obvious in TLOU:LB. Never read this blog before, but it looks really interesting and well written.
The post is really worth a read. A few good quotes:
What is worrying is that the possibility of Ellie being lesbian or bisexual, that a teenage girl can have serious romantic feelings for another girl, is just brushed off and not given any sense of importance by some gamers…. Joel’s decision to get Ellie out of the Firefly base was completely understandable because that’s what any father would do…. And yet when it comes to this particular pairing [i.e., Ellie and Riley] where the romantic signals are flashing, it’s suddenly just a story about “love transcending the perils of a world gone crazy”.
If you’re gonna say that Ellie might not be gay, you might as well say that Joel might be a secret blonde, and he maintains his salt and pepper looks for decades since the apocalypse with a secret stash of Just For Men. In other words, you can interpret the story however you like, even if it’s implausible and totally out of character for the protagonist.
